Time for some poetry

I submitted this poem as part of a portfolio for English. This was my favorite of the bunch.

The Reign of Terror

We've seen this all before

Heard the crowd’s roar

Echoing as innocent

And guilty, penitent

And defiant alike

Have their heads stuck on a pike.

The gruesome scene:

Madame la Guillotine

And her victims,

With their lifeless limbs.

This is by no means fair,

But Citizen Robespierre

Will have the head of whoever

Makes any protest whatsoever.

So at the heart of the crowd’s cheers,

In every man, lies a hint of fear.

Who is brave enough to defy

The cold-blooded hatred in his eye?

This revolution of ours

Seems to have gone too far

But who can put a stop

To the town square’s butcher shop?

Surely no one man alone can fix this error,

This horrifying reign of terror.
